Red Bank Elks continue to honor 9/11 heroes and victims

Exalted Ruler, Ginny Maio joined the town of Red Bank, other Elks and the Chorus of the Atlantic in honoring those who perished on 9/11, including 2 Red Bank residents. It's been 11 years, and the Elks will never forget that day. Thank you to The Two River Times who provided the pictures below:
Below is an excerpt from Ginny's speech at Riverside Gardens Park on September 11th:
"Reflecting on that day, we always think of courage. Courage in its purest form — spontaneous, unselfish, uncompromising. The courage of all those that lost their lives: citizens, first responders, soldiers, fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters. The courage of those that fought the attackers high in the skies over Pennsylvania that ensured others would live. The courage of those often forgotten who struggled to overcome horrific injuries sustained during the attack. And finally, the courage of all of us, collectively, as citizens, to respond to and recover from the events of those days."

Giving back to those who protect us!

Welcome Christian, our 2013 Child of the Year!

Christian is a 6 year old with special needs. This Christmas he made a major milestone – he took his first steps to sit on Santa’s lap at the mall, as pictured above.

Christian goes to a special school with children with disabilities and he loves his school.  He also participates in a program called Special Strides that combines horses and therapy to achieve therapeutic goals in an fun and exciting atmosphere.

Christian will have to face many challenges and obstacles going forward, as he grows.  Through it all, he amazes and inspires his parents and aides with his strength, determination, love and fighting spirit.  Christian is in need of learning tools, a special chair, and other items tailored for his special challenges.

Leo, 2011 Child of the Year

Every year the Red Bank Elks Lodge supports a local child with special needs and provides assistance to the child and the family throughout the year and beyond.
Four-year old Leo from Little Silver, was diagnosed with Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, and has had other health challenges throughout his very young life.  And although his motor skills have been greatly affected, Leo’s spirit and courage remain unswayed. His mother Cristina, army veteran father Fred, older brother Pierce and younger brother Ty, feel truly blessed to have this smart, loving and funny little boy in their lives. And now, so does the Lodge.
We met Leo and his family at the Red Bank Elks Charity Ball in April. Leo danced the night away, and sang a special duet with his brother Pierce, of one their favorite country songs, The Impossible, by Joe Nichols.

To make Leo’s life and mobility a little easier, the Lodge is
helping the family financially with a car lift, and recently helped build a wheelchair ramp at his home with specialty contractor Accessible Design and Construction out of Hazlet and other volunteers from Youth Challenged Sports. Over 20 people were there to help (as seen below) which is a true testament to the importance of Leo and his family in people's lives.

Leo has had some tough obstacles in his life thus far, but he’s strong, truly special, and has a loving and supportive family and network of friends--that seems to be growing by the day!
Do you want your own Team Leo shirt or would like more information on how you can help Leo? Please email info@redbankelks.org
Please also support Michael's Feat.
